DIY Teacher "Survival" Kits - Back to School Teacher Appreciation Gift Idea! Cheap and Easy!

Last year we made up these little survival kits for the kids teachers.  We started with an index card holder from Walgreens (.19¢ each) which was a great size to keep tucked into a desk (or car console/glovebox).  I left the index card dividers in them in case they wanted to use them later.  Then we added little funzies to it.....all FREE after coupons or Register Rewards. Each kit got:
  • Kids travel size band-aids
  • Tea bags
  • Chap-Stick
  • Hair product samples (smoothing creme...etc.)
  • Hair-ties
  • Nail file
  • Crystal Light single drink packets
  • Vicks cough drops

I had some other ideas, but either didn't have them or couldn't fit them - these are a few of them:
  • aspirin
  • gum
  • tissues
  • super glue

You can check out Lucia's blog where she has some other great ideas for a "teacher survival kit" or teacher appreciation gift, with some sweet sentiments to go along with them.  You could also personalize them to what your teachers like (ie: collections like frogs, dance things for a dance teacher....etc.)

The kids each wrote a note saying who it was to and from and titled it "Desk Kit"......when we were telling my (then) 6 year old what to write, my husband said "It's kit, like kitten" - which he didn't understand and ended up writing "Desk Kitten".  I thought it was too cute, so he just crossed it out and added the right words.  =)

Since all the "goodies" were free, each one was about .19¢!  They were very inexpensive, but also practical for our wonderful teachers!

Teachers are our best assets and even though my "kids" are 27 and 29, I always donate to their past teachers if they are still teaching or just to their old schools. They need all the help they can get! Thanks to all teachers and thanks for the great idea!
