If you live in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area there's a really cool event going on this weekend! The West Michigan Mom's Sale & Kids Expo is being being held at the DeltaPlex this Saturday, March 19th, 2011 (Moms sale: 9am-3pm, Kids Expo: 9am-5pm). You can check out their facebook page here. (There's also one in Battle Creek on May 21st at the Kellogg Arena.)
• Hundreds of moms selling gently used baby, kids, and maternity items
• Handmade baby and childrens items
• Local businesses offering products and services to children and their families
• Bounce houses, fire trucks, performances, giveaways, and much more
• Fun for the Kids!
My sister and I met up with a couple girlfriends from Kalamazoo to go to one and we had a great time!! It was like a gazillion yard sale tables all dedicated to children's things, newborn to sz. 16 all in one building. No driving from sale to sale, not too hot or too cold, no bugs, no rain....it was great. Like yard sales, the prices did vary, but there was so much to choose from that if you thought things were too expensive at one table you could make an offer or move on to another. Along with tables full of clothes, shoes, toys, books, etc., there's also an area with big items like cribs, car seats, exersaucers, highchairs....etc. They didn't offer the Kid Expo at the one we went to, but that seems like a very cool addition!
I also think it's very cool that they support the Alpha Womens Center (a local pregnancy care center) with this sale. You can read more about it below, and feel free to bring in formula or diapers to donate to the center.
Cost:
Admission is $5 per person. Children 12 and under are free. Parking is free at the Grand Rapids Sale. Shoppers and sellers at the Battle Creek Sale may park in the attached parking ramp or available street parking.
(If you're planning on going they do have $2 off admission coupons available at vendors locations who are involved in the Expo. Check a list of coupon locations here - they're available on a first come first serve basis.)
Tips and Suggestions:
•Arrive early for the best deals.
•Bring your own reusable shopping bag.
•Bring cash in small bills. Checks will not be accepted.
•If you anticipate purchasing a large item and will be unable to carry it yourself, please bring someone with you that can help.
From their "About Us":
The West Michigan Mom's Sale was organized in 2008 by a group of local moms to give other moms in the area a better way to sell and shop for their growing kids clothing and toys. Modeled after Southeast Michigans popular Mom-2-Mom sales, the West Michigan Mom's Sale has quickly become the largest Mom-2-Mom-type sale in Michigan. This sale is, without doubt, the best place in West Michigan to bargain shop for gently used baby/childrens clothing (up to size 16), toys, baby gear, baby/toddler furniture, and maternity clothing. You can now find the West Michigan Moms Sale in Grand Rapids and Battle Creek!
The West Michigan Moms Sale is dedicated to giving back to the community. We are committed to donating 10% of all profits from each sale to a local non-profit that serves women and children. Sellers are not asked or required to donate any of their profits from the sale.
