FREE Zumba and Hooping Exercise Classes tomorrow April 14th!

Are any of you fans of Zumba??  I love, love, love it!  It's a great cardio exercise based on Latin dance that really gets your heart rate up and (maybe most importantly) is a lot of fun!  I'm not a big fan of exercise, but Zumba is something I've come back to the gym for over and over since I discovered it 3-4 years ago.

For my local West Michigan readers, here's are a couple FREE Zumba Classes to check out tomorrow and a chance to try "hooping" too!

(This is being put on by Heather at Shoreline Natural Wellness who I know personally and is extremely knowledgeable, and Merri David from Hoop Happy will be there too and I've taken her "hooping" class at the YMCA and it was a fantastic workout!)

When: Saturday, April 14th at 1:15 and 2:15 pm

Where: Hackley at the Lakes (6401 Prairie St, Norton Shores, MI 49444) by the Lakes Mall

Cost: FREE!

Why: Mammogram party from 1-4pm. This is an open house to help low income women get the preventative services so very important for their health. All are welcome, not just low income. Both Merri Davis of Hoop Happy and I (Heather) will be there dancing and hooping our hearts out. I will run two 20 minute classes. One at 1:15 and another at 2:15. Come ready to laugh and dance.

West Michigan Mom Sale in Grand Rapids, MI - September 16th and 17th, 2011!

Earlier this year I posted about the West Michigan Mom's Sale that was going on in Grand Rapids, MI.   Well, this weekend, Friday and Saturday (September 16th and 17th) they're having it again at the Deltaplex in GR!  It's like a giant indoor yard sale with hundreds of tables of moms selling their gently used baby, kids, and maternity items -- clothing (newborn - sz.16), toys, baby/toddler furniture, baby gear, and maternity clothing.  It's a great "Mom to Mom" type sale, and you can find lots of bargains!  Right now is also a great time to go since most yard/garage sales are done for the year.

The sale is on September 16 & 17 at the DeltaPlex Arena (in Grand Rapids) from 9am-2pm. Admission is $3 per person for 1 day, or purchase a 2 day ticket for only $5. Children 12 and under are free. Parking is free!

My sister and I went a few years ago with a couple girlfriends and we all had a fun time and found bagfuls of great deals -- we have 14 kids between the 4 of us, of all ages, and we all found things we were looking for.  I find that the prices were a bit higher than what I would normally spend at a typical yard sale -- but the convenience of hundreds of sales in one place, indoors (no heat/cold, bugs or rain!), and no paying for gas to drive all over town was worth it!  And overall, most items being sold were very good quality.

Here are some tips from their website for shoppers:
•Arrive early for the best deals.
•Bring your own reusable shopping bag.
•Bring cash in small bills. Checks will not be accepted.
•If you anticipate purchasing a large item and will be unable to carry it yourself, please bring someone with you that can help.

Check out the West Michigan Mom's Sale website, and also their Facebook page for more info.  Maybe I'll see you there??  =)

FREE Admission to Michigan Irish Music Festival in Muskegon, Michigan -- and $2 coupon off admission!

For all my local West Michigan readers (or those that love Irish music and festivities and want to travel), there's an annual Michigan Irish Music Festival here in Muskegon that I've wanted to check out since we've moved here -- nearly 7 years ago!  It always falls on the same weekend as my birthday, and we usually have other plans.  I think we'll finally be checking it out this year!

I always hear great things about it from friends that go, so I thought I'd share the fact that you can check it out for FREE!  The festival is from September 16th - 18th.  Adult tickets are normally between $8 and $15, but on Friday from 5-6 pm they're offering a "Free Early In" time where you get completely FREE admission!

Check out their website or Facebook page for more info about the festival, and if you'll miss the "Early In" time, grab this coupon for $2 off any adult admission!

West Michigan Mom's Sale - Sat., March 19th, 2011 in Grand Rapids, MI!

If you live in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area there's a really cool event going on this weekend! The West Michigan Mom's Sale & Kids Expo is being being held at the DeltaPlex this Saturday, March 19th, 2011 (Moms sale: 9am-3pm, Kids Expo: 9am-5pm).  You can check out their facebook page here.  (There's also one in Battle Creek on May 21st at the Kellogg Arena.)

• Hundreds of moms selling gently used baby, kids, and maternity items
• Handmade baby and childrens items
• Local businesses offering products and services to children and their families
• Bounce houses, fire trucks, performances, giveaways, and much more
• Fun for the Kids!

My sister and I met up with a couple girlfriends from Kalamazoo to go to one and we had a great time!! It was like a gazillion yard sale tables all dedicated to children's things, newborn to sz. 16 all in one building. No driving from sale to sale, not too hot or too cold, no bugs, no rain....it was great. Like yard sales, the prices did vary, but there was so much to choose from that if you thought things were too expensive at one table you could make an offer or move on to another.  Along with tables full of clothes, shoes, toys, books, etc., there's also an area with big items like cribs, car seats, exersaucers, highchairs....etc.  They didn't offer the Kid Expo at the one we went to, but that seems like a very cool addition!

I also think it's very cool that they support the Alpha Womens Center (a local pregnancy care center) with this sale.  You can read more about it below, and feel free to bring in formula or diapers to donate to the center.

Cost:
Admission is $5 per person. Children 12 and under are free. Parking is free at the Grand Rapids Sale. Shoppers and sellers at the Battle Creek Sale may park in the attached parking ramp or available street parking.

(If you're planning on going they do have $2 off admission coupons available at vendors locations who are involved in the Expo.  Check a list of coupon locations here - they're available on a first come first serve basis.)

Tips and Suggestions
:

•Arrive early for the best deals.
•Bring your own reusable shopping bag.
•Bring cash in small bills. Checks will not be accepted.
•If you anticipate purchasing a large item and will be unable to carry it yourself, please bring someone with you that can help.

From their "About Us":
The West Michigan Mom's Sale was organized in 2008 by a group of local moms to give other moms in the area a better way to sell and shop for their growing kids clothing and toys. Modeled after Southeast Michigans popular Mom-2-Mom sales, the West Michigan Mom's Sale has quickly become the largest Mom-2-Mom-type sale in Michigan. This sale is, without doubt, the best place in West Michigan to bargain shop for gently used baby/childrens clothing (up to size 16), toys, baby gear, baby/toddler furniture, and maternity clothing. You can now find the West Michigan Moms Sale in Grand Rapids and Battle Creek!

The West Michigan Moms Sale is dedicated to giving back to the community. We are committed to donating 10% of all profits from each sale to a local non-profit that serves women and children. Sellers are not asked or required to donate any of their profits from the sale.

Alpha Womens Center - Grand Rapids

The West Michigan Moms Sale has partnered with Alpha Womens Center, a local pregnancy care center that is devoted to serving some of the most vulnerable residents in greater-Grand Rapids, women and children. Please consider helping Alpha serve these young families by bringing a package of diapers or an unopened can of formula with you to the Grand Rapids West Michigan Moms Sale. Alpha needs 70,000 diapers and 14,000 cans of formula this year to meet the needs of their clients. Alpha Womens Center will be present at the sale to accept all donations. For more information on Alpha Womens Center and the work they do here in Grand Rapids, please visit their website, www.alphawc.org.
