2 Minutes to Extend the Life of Your Dryer -- and Save Money on Utility Bills Too!

{these are not mine.....but a girl can dream right?}

I recently found this great pin on Pinterest called "17 Tips to Make Your Life Easier".  I was immediately interested and pinned it to check it out another day.  I finally got around to reading it and there were some great money and time saving nuggets in there!!

One of them was to make sure your clean your dryer's lint filter because dryer sheets create a waxy build-up and prevent the lint screen from working as well.  It keeps the damp air from escaping the dryer so it's less efficient.....running longer and using more energy/gas....which means more money out of your pocket!  AND, it can cause the heating unit to burn out, sending your dryer to appliance heaven....or even worse -- cause a fire!

{before washing the screen}

I thought I'd check this out on my own lint screen and it worked great!  When I first ran water onto the screen, it pooled and drained slowly.  It only took a minute or so to put some hot soapy water in the sink and scrub it with a toothbrush I reserve for doing dishes.  Then I rinsed the suds off and the water ran right through!  I can only imagine how much easier the air will pass through!

This discovery was perfectly timed, because the kids had just been mentioning that their laundry was coming out a little damp even after running a complete cycle.  I hadn't noticed that myself......but maybe that's because my baskets of laundry often sit for a few days.....so maybe they dry out by then?  ;)
{after cleaning it....see how the water goes right through?}

I'm looking forward to seeing if we notice a difference.  But even if we don't see the change, my mind is at ease knowing that it's running safer than before.  I thought I should share the tip with you to help you save money and extend the life of your appliance -- and, it's really quick and easy to do!  My favorite kind of super savings!  ;)

Carter's has a recall out on some of their tagless clothing. Some babies are experiencing burns/rashes. They're offering the suggested retail price (SRP) back for the item - even if you got it for .25 at a yard sale!!
You can go HERE to read more about this and which items qualify.

Here is an example of the solid 2007 labels that are on the recalled list:

Crocs $10 at Big Lots!! June 14-20

I was never a fan of Crocs, but one day last summer Gracie and I were out running errands and she had worn her dress shoes which were getting too small. I didn't know just how small until the tears started. We had stopped at Rite-Aid, and amazingly enough they happen to have some off-brand Crocs clearanced to $4 in her size, so we grabbed them. They have held up great to Grace's wear and tear (which is a toughy!) and I've even thrown them in the dishwasher to clean them!

While I'm still not a fan of adults wearing them to every function (they make them with heels!!), they are definitely handy - especially for kids!!

So.........that brings me to the deal! =) Right now they are $10 at Big Lots! $10 or less is my target price for new shoes and what great shoes for summer! Selection is limited and tends to go quickly at Big Lots, so hurry! See their ad for more deals!

KangaRoos anyone? (through Sunday!)

I was checking out 6pm.com this afternoon and came across this sweet deal!!
Does anyone remember KangaROOS?? We had a pair when I was growing up that was passed down from my oldest brother, to my next oldest brother, to me, to my sister, to my youngest brother. We got some serious mileage out of that pup! I just remember it being the coolest pair of shoes I'd ever seen because it had a little zipper with a tiny pocket on the outside of the shoe -so cool! I saw a couple pair today while I was browsing that had a little zipper on it! Nostalgia aside, here's the cool part..........

This weekend only (through Sun., March 15th) ALL KangaROOS shoes are $12.95!! They retail up to $80! It looks like it's just women's shoes from what I can tell - but there's many different styles and colors of each style. Less now than this afternoon, but still 62 styles listed.
Shipping is a flat rate of $6.95. I'm tired now, but I think I might get myself some sweet kicks tomorrow. Anyone want to share shipping? =)
